It was written by Jules Sterne and performed by Marilyn Monroe in the movie ‘Gentlemen Prefer Blondes’….. “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend” became a MM staple and other women quickly boarded that same bus. While originally intended as satirical whimsy it struck a chord among women who could see that the words did have more than a little ring of truth. These were not the days of women’s rights and dueling divorce lawyers. If a marriage or relationship failed, women were often left with nothing, thus the inspiration for the song.
Diamonds are a girl’s best friend because they never change and they never leave you. It’s kind of like a really cool puppy that you wear around your neck or on your hand. This puppy will stay with you through thick and thin, lose or win. Although many things in life may change your diamond jewelry will always be close at hand. These baubles defy that old saying about “You can‘t take it with you.” I beg to differ, wherever you go, even 6 feet under you can most certainly “take these with you”.

Another reason why diamonds are a girl’s best friend is because they are rare. Even though a lot of people have them, they are still an overall rarity. Diamonds make women feel special. Diamond earrings that are just small chips will make us smile for days. The sizes of the diamonds are not that important to most women, they just want that feeling of being very important, gloriously special and much loved.
You cannot take a glittering yellow canary diamond necklace for a drive and you can’t live in a gold and diamond tiara, but they will forever have the fairy tale magic which allows them to turning any woman into a princess.
